Our Story

It started with a horse named Kerry O'Reilly.

Our then 15-year-old daughter Aimee went to work at Event Stars in Cambridge and fell in love with Kerry O'Reilly, a bay gelding bred and born in the Waikato. Kerry was one of 24 competitors in the 2006 Melbourne Cup — the world's richest handicap race — finishing 11th, a result that spoke to the respect he commanded on the track. He'd also won the Waikato Gold Cup in 2005 and placed second in New Zealand's richest race, the Kelt Capital Stakes, in 2006.

Like a lot of horses, Kerry suffered from mud fever. When we couldn't find a product that actually helped, we made our own — a blend of aqueous cream, emu oil, 100% pure therapeutic essential oils, and aloe vera. It worked. That formula became the Original Topical Goo, and it's been our signature product ever since.

Equine Super Goo has been making natural products since 2017, and we launched that first Topical Goo in 2020. What started as one cream for one horse's mud fever has grown into a full range for horses, dogs, and dairy cattle, sold through around 280 stockists across New Zealand — including the Cambridge Equine Hospital and Farmlands.

In 2024 we were named a finalist in the NZI Rural New Zealand Woman Business Awards.

We still test everything ourselves before it goes anywhere near a customer — the Original Topical Goo has even been used on nappy rash on our own babies. If it's not something we'd put on our own family, it doesn't go in the tub.
